Bhuvneshwar Kumar Shines Again: A Potential Comeback for India?
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Stellar Performance
In New Delhi, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif has praised veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his outstanding performance against the Delhi Capitals (DC). Kaif noted that Bhuvneshwar continues to swing the ball effectively, posing challenges for top-order batsmen.
Kaif expressed curiosity about the possibility of Bhuvneshwar making a return to the Indian national team.
During a chase of 176 runs, Bhuvneshwar dismantled the DC batting lineup during the power play, leaving them at a precarious 18/3. He concluded his four-over spell with impressive figures of three wickets for just 26 runs. Throughout this IPL season, Bhuvneshwar has been exceptional for the defending champions, claiming 10 wickets in six matches with an average of 20.00 and an economy rate of 8.33.
This IPL season also marked a significant milestone for him, as he joined Yuzi Chahal to become the first fast bowler and the second overall to achieve 200 wickets in IPL history.
In a heartfelt social media post, Kaif reminisced about Bhuvneshwar's early days when he made a name for himself as a teenager by dismissing Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in a final match.
Kaif shared, "Watching Bhuvi bowl so beautifully today brought back memories of when he was just 17. I was the UP captain and was impressed by his control and swing. The selectors thought he was too young, but I insisted. Bhuvi made his Ranji debut and got Sachin Paaji out for a duck in the final. Now at 36, he still troubles the best batsmen with his swing. A comeback for India? Why not, Bhuvi still has it in him."
Bhuvneshwar made his international debut for India in 2012 and last played for the national team in 2022 during the T20 World Cup in Australia. Over his career, he has participated in 229 international matches, taking 294 wickets at an average of 29.50, including seven five-wicket hauls and best figures of 6/82.
In T20 internationals, he has taken 90 wickets in 87 matches at an average of 23.10, with two five-wicket hauls and best figures of 5/4. His last appearance in Indian colors was during the semifinals against England, where India lost by 10 wickets.
Following this victory, DC has moved up to fourth place in the standings with three wins and two losses, totaling six points. RCB is currently in second place with four wins and two losses, accumulating eight points.
RCB, batting first, managed to score only 175/8 in their 20 overs, with Phil Salt being the standout performer, scoring 63 runs off 38 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel each took two wickets.
Fifties from KL and Stubbs (60* off 47 balls, with four boundaries) along with a strong finish from Miller (22* off 10 balls, including a four and two sixes) led DC to a remarkable victory.
