Historic Achievement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar

On April 30, Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in the record books by becoming the first bowler to secure 200 IPL wickets in India. This remarkable feat occurred during the IPL 2026 match between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where Bhuvneshwar needed just two wickets to hit the milestone. He achieved this within the first five overs by taking down GT's openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Bhuvneshwar, who is currently leading the Purple Cap race in IPL 2026, opened his account by having Sudharsan caught by Jitesh Sharma on the sixth delivery of the third over, with the left-handed batter managing only six runs off five balls. His second wicket came on the last ball of his third over when he dismissed Gill, who scored 43 runs off 18 balls. Following this, Bhuvneshwar also took the wicket of Jos Buttler, marking his 200th IPL wicket in India.

Yuzvendra Chahal follows Bhuvneshwar as the second-highest wicket-taker among Indian bowlers in IPL history, having taken 186 wickets in 154 matches. Bhuvneshwar has played for three IPL teams: Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, participating in 15 IPL matches across three venues in the UAE.
