Ben Stokes Optimistic About England's Future Under Brendon McCullum
Stokes Backs McCullum Ahead of Summer Series
London [UK], April 15: England's captain Ben Stokes is optimistic that his team will regain their winning momentum as they approach the home international summer. He has expressed unwavering support for head coach Brendon McCullum, despite the team's recent struggles.
Stokes has retained his position as England's Test captain alongside McCullum, even after a disappointing performance in The Ashes. He believes that their long-standing partnership will be crucial in guiding the team back to success.
"I have full confidence in our ability to collaborate effectively," Stokes shared in an interview with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), as reported by the ICC website. "We have been working together for a significant time, albeit in a slightly different manner. Our primary focus is on aligning our efforts towards achieving victories and enhancing the team's performance."
Following a 4-1 defeat in The Ashes, the England management was under scrutiny. However, with their continued support, Stokes is taking a broader view of the situation.
He takes pride in the transformation of the team's approach to the format and the positive outcomes since he and McCullum took charge in 2022.
"Reflecting on what Brendon and I have accomplished with the team over the past four years, I can't envision pursuing our goals with anyone else," Stokes remarked.
Both Stokes and McCullum are contracted until 2027, and with the Ashes and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup approaching next year, they are aware of their objectives.
"We are both very passionate about our roles. We invest a lot of effort and dedication into this job. Brendon has certainly done so over the past four years, and I hope we will still be together at the end of 2027, achieving our desired victories," he concluded.
England's next Test match is scheduled against New Zealand, commencing on June 4 at Lord's. This series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, where England currently ranks seventh with a point percentage of 31.67.
