Ben Stokes Confident Ahead of Fourth Test Against India at Old Trafford
Stokes Reflects on Previous Performance
As the fourth Test match against India approaches at Old Trafford in Manchester, England's captain Ben Stokes expressed his confidence, noting that he felt in good rhythm during the final day of the Lord's Test, despite only taking two wickets.
In the second innings of the Lord's Test, Stokes bowled the most overs for England, delivering 24 overs and securing three wickets, including the crucial dismissal of KL Rahul, who had scored a century in the first innings.
During a press conference, Stokes shared, "I felt really good, and even though I only got two wickets throughout the day, I just felt like I was threatening. My rhythm felt really good. Everything felt just sort of easy."
He elaborated, saying, "As a bowler, when you find that rhythm, it feels like you're just warming up. Everything was coming out well, and I consistently felt threatening during those spells, which is why I kept going."
Stokes emphasized his desire to win for England, mentioning that he has been careful with his bowling loads throughout the innings. "Enjoyment might not be the right word; I just wanted to win for my team. I feel I've managed my overs sensibly so far. But on day five, I was ready to give it my all," he stated.
He acknowledged that the day could have unfolded differently, noting that he might have bowled several spells, but he felt good during the two he delivered, which is why he continued.
Currently, Stokes is the top wicket-taker for England in the series against India, with 11 wickets across three matches at an average of 29.45 and an economy rate of 3.08.
However, he has yet to make a significant impact with the bat, accumulating only 163 runs in six innings at an average of 27.16.
With England leading the series 2-1, India will be looking to level the score as they prepare for the fourth Test, set to commence on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
