BCCI Unveils New T20I Squad for Zimbabwe Series Amidst Ongoing England Matches
BCCI Announces T20I Squad for Zimbabwe Series
On Monday, July 6, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the Indian T20I team for the upcoming three-match series against Zimbabwe, scheduled from July 23 to 26. This announcement comes even as the Indian team is currently engaged in a series against England, where they are trailing 0-1. The squad changes follow a disappointing 2-0 series loss in Shreyas Iyer's debut series as captain in T20 cricket.
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has made significant alterations to the squad, introducing six new players. Notably, seven members of the current England tour will not be part of the Zimbabwe trip. Sanju Samson, who was recently dropped from the playing XI for the second T20I in favor of debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is the most prominent exclusion. Despite being a key player in India's T20 World Cup triumph in 2026, where he scored three consecutive half-centuries, Samson's recent performances have led to his omission.
Rinku Singh makes a return to the squad after being excluded from the UK tour, despite his contributions to the T20 World Cup-winning team. Additionally, star all-rounder Axar Patel will also miss the Zimbabwe tour. Newcomers Prabhsimran Singh, Harsh Dubey, Ashok Sharma, and Yash Thakur are among those who could potentially make their T20I debuts during this series.
