BCCI to Review T20I Team's Performance Following Disappointing Series

The BCCI is set to hold a review meeting to evaluate the T20I team's performance after a disappointing series against Ireland and England. With Shreyas Iyer now at the helm, the team has struggled, trailing 0-3 in the ongoing series. The review aims to address the team's shortcomings and strategize for improvement. This comes after the controversial sacking of Suryakumar Yadav, who previously led India to a T20 World Cup victory. The cricket community is keen to see how the team will respond in the upcoming ODI series.

BCCI Plans Review Meeting After T20I Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced plans to hold a review meeting in light of India's underwhelming performance in the recent T20I series against Ireland and England. Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, indicated that the board is closely monitoring the T20I team's results. A meeting will take place with the team's core members following the conclusion of the ODI series, which wraps up on July 19.

Saikia stated, "The BCCI is currently assessing the Indian T20 team's performance, which has not met expectations during the ongoing series against England. However, such phases are not uncommon in international cricket, and we view this as a temporary setback. After the ODI series concludes on July 19, we will convene a review meeting with the core team members to analyze what went wrong in England. We are optimistic that the team will regain its form during the ODI series," he added.

He emphasized that the review will focus solely on the team's performance and potential improvements, with no other topics on the agenda.

In a significant move, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar made the controversial decision to remove Suryakumar Yadav from the captaincy, despite his success in leading India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. He has also been excluded from the squad.

Shreyas Iyer's Leadership Under Scrutiny

Shreyas Iyer has taken over the T20I captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav and returned to the playing XI after a two-year absence. Unfortunately, Iyer's first match in charge resulted in a surprising loss to Ireland in the opening game of the two-match series, leading to a whitewash by a second-string Ireland team. Under Suryakumar's leadership, India had not lost any bilateral series.

Expectations were high for Iyer's squad in the five-match series against England, but they currently find themselves trailing 0-3 after four matches, with the fifth game scheduled for Saturday (July 11). The series opener was abandoned due to rain.
