New Directives to Ensure Match Integrity

To address potential technological vulnerabilities, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a new set of stringent regulations for all Indian Premier League (IPL) teams concerning match-day procedures. According to sources familiar with the situation, players and support staff have been explicitly cautioned against bringing unauthorized communication devices into restricted zones, particularly highlighting the emergence of "smart glasses" in dressing rooms. This advisory serves as a crucial reminder that eyewear featuring hidden cameras, video recording functions, messaging capabilities, or any smartphone-like features are strictly prohibited during matches.

Increased Scrutiny Following Recent Incidents

The intensified focus on wearable technology is a response to several breaches of protocol observed earlier in the 2026 season. Recently, Rajasthan Royals' manager was fined ₹1 lakh and issued a stern warning after being caught on camera using a mobile phone in the team dugout during a live game. This incident prompted the BCCI to reiterate that, aside from the Team Manager (who may use a phone only in the dressing room, not in the dugout) and the team analyst, all communication devices are banned during play. Furthermore, the ACSU had to issue a warning in May regarding unauthorized individuals being seen in team areas, including dugouts and hotels. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, "We have noticed various anomalies and irregularities in the conduct of certain franchises and players. Therefore, BCCI and IPL are preparing an advisory, which will be released this evening, as we have observed many unauthorized persons accompanying team members. Some of these individuals have been entering hotels and players' rooms, which violates our anti-corruption protocols." He further emphasized that certain team owners and officials have been interacting with players in restricted areas, highlighting the need for strict adherence to protocols. "We take these violations very seriously and will enforce the advisory rigorously. Any future breaches will result in severe consequences from BCCI and IPL," he added.
