The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed the speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma's retirement, affirming that he will remain an active player for Team India. These retirement rumors emerged during the second ODI match between India and England, suggesting that Rohit might announce his retirement after the series. Additionally, there were claims that he would not be selected for future matches. However, Rohit silenced his critics by scoring a century in the third ODI, making history as the first Indian to achieve this feat at Lord's Cricket Ground.
Following the match at Lord's, the BCCI addressed the rumors, stating that there is no truth to the retirement claims. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla emphasized, "Rohit Sharma is an integral part of our team and will continue to play. The rumors circulating in the media and on social platforms are baseless. Currently, there is no question of his retirement," during a statement made on July 24.
Rohit is now focused solely on ODI cricket after announcing his retirement from T20I matches following India's victory in the 2024 World Cup. He also stepped away from Test cricket a year later, but he remains committed to ODI cricket with aspirations to participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
