Basant Kumar Meghwal Secures Silver in Men's High Jump at World Athletics U20 Championships

Basant Kumar Meghwal achieved a remarkable feat by winning a silver medal in the men's high jump at the World Athletics U20 Championships, marking India's second medal at the event.

The 19-year-old athlete from Anupgarh, located in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, cleared a personal best height of 2.21 meters, securing his silver medal on the fourth day of the championships held on Saturday.

The gold medal was claimed by Algeria's Younes Ayachi, while Great Britain's Otis Poole took home the bronze. All three athletes managed to clear the height of 2.21 meters but were unsuccessful in their attempts to surpass 2.24 meters.

The final standings were determined by countback, which considered the number of attempts taken to clear the previous height.

Ayachi successfully cleared 2.21 meters on his first attempt, whereas Meghwal and Poole achieved this height on their second and third attempts, respectively.

Earlier in the competition, Ashish Yadav had already contributed to India's medal tally by winning a silver in the men's javelin throw on the third day.
