Bangladesh Replaces Mominul Haque with Amite Hasan for Second Test Against West Indies
Bangladesh Adjusts Squad for Second Test
Dhaka, Bangladesh - On November 1, Bangladesh announced the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan in their 15-member squad for the upcoming second Test against West Indies. This change comes after Mominul Haque was sidelined due to a head injury he sustained during the first match of the World Test Championship series.
As reported by the ICC, Mominul incurred the injury while fielding in the initial Test and was subsequently replaced by concussion substitute Jaker Ali. Following ICC's concussion protocols, Mominul is required to undergo a minimum seven-day stand-down period before he can return to play.
Amite, who debuted in Test cricket against Zimbabwe in June, is set to participate in the match scheduled to begin on November 5 in Sylhet. Despite having played only one Test, the 23-year-old boasts an impressive first-class record, amassing 4,040 runs across 54 matches with an average of 50.50.
The team will be captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, with players including Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain rounding out the squad.
Bangladesh enters the second Test trailing 0-1 after an eight-wicket loss in the series opener. They had a slight advantage with a 27-run lead in the first innings but failed to defend a target of 170 runs in the final innings.
West Indies' openers, Brandon King and John Campbell, formed a century partnership that brought the visitors close to victory. King finished unbeaten on 81, while Campbell added 49 runs, leading West Indies to a comfortable win.
Jomel Warrican emerged as the standout bowler, taking nine wickets throughout the match, significantly contributing to West Indies' triumph.
This defeat has impacted Bangladesh's standing in the World Test Championship, causing them to drop from fourth to fifth place. They will aim to equalize the two-match series in Sylhet, while West Indies seeks to clinch the series.
