Bangladesh-Pakistan Test Match Likely to End in Draw
Test Match Overview
The ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and Pakistan appears set to conclude without a winner. With Bangladesh leading by almost 200 runs and only three sessions remaining, a dramatic turnaround seems improbable given the flat pitch conditions. Prior to the final day, Pakistan's all-rounder Salman Agha issued an unusual challenge to Bangladesh, suggesting they declare at 270 runs, allowing Pakistan 70 overs to chase the target. He stated, "At this moment, it's hard to determine who holds the advantage. Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day of Test cricket. Our goal is to dismiss them quickly, and that will shape our strategy. I can't speak for others," following a rain-affected day on Monday.
"We are definitely aiming for a win. If they are bold enough to set us a target of 260 runs in 70 overs, we will certainly go for it. However, I doubt they will take that risk," Agha remarked. He expressed skepticism about Bangladesh's willingness to take such a gamble, emphasizing his desire for them to score quickly. "For a win, they would need to score around 100 runs in 20 overs. If they attempt that, it would be impressive but risky. Personally, I hope they do it. I want them to give us a target of 260 in 60-70 overs. But I suspect they won't," he added.
Agha further mentioned that if Pakistan were in Bangladesh's position, they would also focus on batting the opposition out of the game before considering any risky declarations. "If we were in their shoes, we would aim to set a substantial total and ensure they are out of the game before deciding on a target," he concluded.
Potential Consequences of a Draw on WTC Standings
What Impact Draw Would Have On WTC?
In the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Bangladesh and Pakistan have faced each other in two Tests, with Pakistan winning one and losing the other. They currently occupy the fifth position with a points percentage (PCT) of 50. Conversely, Bangladesh has one victory and one draw, placing them eighth with a PCT of 16.67. Should this Test end in a draw, Pakistan's PCT would decrease to 44.44, causing them to fall behind India in the standings. Meanwhile, Bangladesh would remain in eighth place but see a slight improvement in their PCT to 22.22.
