Bangladesh Takes Charge on Opening Day

Dhaka [India], May 8: Bangladesh showcased a commanding performance on the first day of the inaugural Test against Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, finishing Day 1 with an impressive score of 301 for 4.

Despite facing early setbacks, the home team found resilience through a stellar century from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 101 runs, and a determined 91 from Mominul Haque, effectively countering the Pakistani bowling attack.

After winning the toss, Pakistan's captain opted to bowl first. The pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali quickly found their rhythm, with Afridi dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy for 8 runs in the seventh over, while Hasan Ali took out Shadman Islam for 13. This left Bangladesh struggling at 31 for 2 within just over 10 overs.

However, the early breakthroughs proved to be the highlight for the visitors. Shanto and Mominul combined to form a formidable 170-run partnership for the third wicket, turning the tide in favor of Bangladesh.

Shanto was particularly aggressive, hitting 12 boundaries and two sixes, while Mominul played a more measured innings, guiding the team through the middle overs.

The breakthrough for Pakistan came in the 53rd over when Mohammad Abbas trapped Shanto LBW shortly after he reached his century, leaving Bangladesh at 201 for 3.

Mominul aimed for his own century but fell just short, scoring 91 before being dismissed by Noman Ali in the 74th over, following a 75-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim.

After the loss of the fourth wicket, Litton Das (8*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (48*) contributed an additional 25 runs, concluding Day 1 with Bangladesh at 301 for 4 after 85 overs.

Pakistan's bowlers struggled throughout the 85 overs, falling short of the full quota due to a slow over rate, with Abbas being the standout performer, taking 1 wicket for 51 runs, the only bowler to concede less than 3 runs per over.

As Day 2 approaches, Bangladesh aims to surpass the 400-run mark, while Pakistan will be eager to secure early wickets with the new ball to regain momentum in the match.
