BCB to Nominate ICC Representatives After Elections

Dhaka [Bangladesh], May 31: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that it will nominate its representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board and the ICC Business Corporation (IBC) Board only after the conclusion of its election process, which is set to wrap up on June 7.

Additionally, the BCB has indicated that an ICC delegation is anticipated to visit Bangladesh soon. This visit will involve discussions with key stakeholders related to the election process and gathering insights to report back to the ICC Board, as per the BCB's official statement.

Earlier this month, the BCB established an Election Commission tasked with overseeing the BCB Board of Directors Election for 2026. This three-member commission will manage all election-related procedures in line with the board's established rules.

Senior Advocate Ahsanul Karim from the Bangladesh Supreme Court has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. The commission also includes Md. Israil Hawlader, Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and A. B. M. Ehsanul Mamun, Deputy Secretary and Director (Planning & Development) at the National Sports Council.

The BCB confirmed these developments through an official release from Dhaka.

The Election Commission is expected to handle the administrative and procedural elements of the cricket board's upcoming elections. On a related note, the Bangladesh government has set up a three-member committee to investigate the decision to withdraw from the T20 World Cup.

Mahbub Ul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stated, "The Ministry has formed a committee to investigate the reasons behind Bangladesh's non-participation in the recent T20 World Cup held in India."

Dr. AKM Oli Ullah, Additional Secretary of the Ministry, will lead the committee, which also includes former national captain Habibul Bashar Sumon and Barrister Faisal Dastagir, a Supreme Court lawyer and sports organizer.

Reports suggest that the committee will explore the rationale behind the withdrawal and assess any potential diplomatic or strategic missteps. They have been tasked with delivering a detailed report to the Ministry within 15 working days.

Prior to the tournament, the BCB had raised security concerns about playing in India and requested the ICC to relocate Bangladesh's matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC denied this request, stating there was no credible threat to the Bangladesh team in India.

As a result, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament after the BCB opted out of the scheduled matches.

Following Aminul Haque's appointment as Minister for Youth and Sports, the government pledged a formal investigation into the unexpected withdrawal to ensure accountability.
