BCB Takes Action Against Director for Public Remarks

On January 15, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that it has issued a show cause notice to its director, M Nazmul Islam, following his controversial statements regarding the nation's cricketers.

This decision comes in response to increasing criticism from players, with the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) demanding the resignation of Nazmul Islam for his comments aimed at senior players, including former captain Tamim Iqbal.

The BCB confirmed that formal disciplinary actions have been initiated against the director in question. A letter has been sent, requiring him to provide a written explanation within 48 hours. The board emphasized that the situation will be handled through the proper channels, and suitable measures will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

Reports indicate that some BCB board members reached out to CWAB president Mohammad Mithun on Wednesday, suggesting that Nazmul could resign from his position as chairman of the finance committee. However, Mithun stated that the players' call for a boycott remains unchanged.

Previously, Nazmul Islam had labeled former captain Tamim Iqbal as an 'Indian agent' after Iqbal advocated for discussions to ease the current tensions in cricket relations between Bangladesh and India, particularly concerning the release of pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

With uncertainty surrounding Bangladesh's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India, Tamim Iqbal urged the BCB to address the issue through dialogue, prioritizing the future and interests of Bangladesh cricket. He made these remarks during the trophy unveiling of the Zia Inter-University Cricket Tournament at the City Club ground on January 9.
