Bangladesh's Historic Win in Darwin

In Darwin, Australia, on August 17, Bangladesh's all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz is setting his sights on clinching the series following a remarkable nine-wicket victory against Australia. This win marks a significant achievement for Bangladesh Cricket, showcasing their strength against a full-strength Australian side.

The match saw standout performances, including a nine-wicket haul from Hasan Mahmud, an impressive all-round display by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and a historic century from Tanzid Hasan. Miraz played a pivotal role, scoring 65 runs off 154 balls, which helped Bangladesh establish a commanding first-innings lead of 228 runs. He also took five wickets, setting a modest target of just 57 runs for Bangladesh, who successfully chased it down with nine wickets remaining.

With the second and final Test scheduled in Mackay, Queensland, Miraz is optimistic about securing a rare 2-0 series victory. He expressed, "We are definitely thinking about clinching the series and want to maintain our focus on our approach," as reported by ICC.

Miraz acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, "Winning a Test match is never straightforward. We aim to carry this momentum into the next match and will strategize later." The first Test showcased strong contributions from various players, with Hasan Mahmud earning the Player of the Match title for his six wickets in the first innings and nine overall. Tanzid Hasan's century was crucial when the match was in a precarious position, while Miraz excelled with both bat and ball.

This victory comes after a disappointing performance against the Cricket Australia XI, where Bangladesh was bowled out for just 54 in their second innings during a tour match. However, Miraz noted that the team's management remained confident in their capabilities.

Miraz shared, "During my struggles, our team manager, Nafis Iqbal, provided immense encouragement on how to adapt to these conditions. I felt mentally uplifted and communicated with him frequently. At one point, he even bowled to me in the nets, which helped me a lot."

He also credited Mushtaq Ahmed from the team management for boosting the players' morale after their initial loss, emphasizing the importance of faith in achieving success. "He encouraged us to believe that victory is attainable, and that belief has led to our current success," Miraz concluded.

The second Test is set to begin in Mackay on Saturday, and a win for Bangladesh would elevate them past Australia in the World Test Championship standings, bringing them closer to a potential final appearance for the first time.

Series schedule:

First Test: Bangladesh won by nine wickets

Second Test: August 22-26, Mackay.
