Australia's 2026-27 Cricket Schedule: A Grueling Test Series Ahead
Cricket Australia Reveals Intense 2026-27 International Calendar
On Sunday, Cricket Australia announced its international calendar for the 2026-27 season, featuring a tightly packed schedule that offers minimal recovery time before the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, which is expected to kick off in mid to late January.
The upcoming five-Test series against India is poised to be a critical juncture for Pat Cummins' veteran team, as they navigate an unprecedented and challenging timetable.
Australia is set to engage in 10 Test matches over a demanding 14-week period from December to March, marking one of the most strenuous phases in their cricketing history.
The home season will kick off in August 2026 with two Tests against Bangladesh and will culminate in March 2027 with a day-night match at the MCG, celebrating the 150th anniversary Test against England.
The series against New Zealand has been condensed into just over four weeks, while Australia's tour of South Africa is scheduled to extend until the end of October, followed by an eight-match white-ball series against England in November.
According to a statement from CA, 'The Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour represents a significant challenge for players like Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon, who have yet to secure a series victory in India. This will be a fast-paced campaign, especially with the anniversary Test in Melbourne set for March 11.'
The decision to hold back Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood from the initial rounds of the upcoming IPL indicates CA's concern about ensuring their fitness for the demanding 2026-27 schedule.
Australia's Test schedule includes:
- August: Two Tests vs Bangladesh (home)
- October: Three Tests vs South Africa (away)
- December-January: Four Tests vs New Zealand (home)
- January-March: Five Tests vs India (away)
- March 11-15: 150th anniversary Test vs England (home)
- June: WTC final (if qualified, England)
- June-August: Five Tests vs England (away)
