Australian Players Opt for IPL Commitment

Several leading Australian cricketers have decided to forgo their national duties to fulfill their obligations in India, participating in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). This decision comes as the six-time world champions prepare for a three-match ODI series against Pakistan later this month, as announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on May 7. The first ODI is set to take place on May 30 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, followed by the second and third matches on June 2 and June 4, respectively.

Australian Players Focus on IPL

Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that the priority for all Australian players is to complete their IPL commitments rather than travel to Pakistan. The IPL playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 26, culminating in the final on May 31. With Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) currently leading the table, even captain Pat Cummins is expected to remain in India. A total of 14 Australian players are participating in the IPL, including Cummins (SRH), Mitchell Marsh (LSG), Travis Head (SRH), Tim David (RCB), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), Xavier Bartlett (PBKS), Cooper Connolly (PBKS), Marcus Stoinis (PBKS), Josh Inglis (LSG), Cameron Green (KKR), Mitchell Starc (DC), and Matthew Short (CSK).

Squad Announcement Pending

As of now, Australia has not announced their squad for the ODI series, and it remains uncertain whether they will wait until the playoff teams are finalized. Notably, Marsh and LSG are unlikely to advance to the playoffs, with LSG currently in 10th place. Additionally, Green and Starc may not participate in the second round due to KKR and DC's struggles. The majority of the other players are expected to be involved in the playoffs, which will commence on May 26, with the final set for May 31.
