Auqib Nabi's Journey to IPL

Auqib Nabi, a promising pacer from Jammu and Kashmir, has yet to step onto the field for the Delhi Capitals in his inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Capitals secured Nabi during the IPL auction for a hefty sum of Rs 8.40 crore after he impressed with his performance in domestic cricket, particularly in the Ranji Trophy where he took 60 wickets, leading his team to victory against a strong Karnataka side in the finals.

Despite his impressive track record, Nabi has not been included in the playing XI for the first two matches of the season. What could be the reason behind this? Ahead of the match against Gujarat Titans on April 8, DC's bowling coach Munaf Patel explained that the team has struggled to fit the young bowler into their lineup so far.

Munaf praised Nabi's dedication, noting that he is one of the standout performers in practice. He highlighted Nabi's exceptional work ethic, stating that while most bowlers typically bowl five to six overs in the nets, Nabi often pushes himself to complete 10 to 12 overs, demonstrating his passion for the game. Munaf remarked, 'He is a very good kid. As fast bowlers, we can be a bit eccentric, but he is genuinely dedicated. He loves the art of bowling and is always eager to learn and improve his skills.'

Additionally, Munaf pointed out the significant difference in batting quality between domestic cricket and the IPL. He explained that even well-executed deliveries can be hit for runs in the IPL, a challenge that Nabi is currently preparing to face. 'In domestic cricket, good balls are often rewarded, but in the IPL, even decent deliveries can be punished,' he added.

Munaf concluded by assuring that Nabi is ready to play and will be given an opportunity when the team structure allows. He mentioned that if the team opts not to use an additional batter as the Impact Player, Nabi could be brought into the lineup. 'Auqib Nabi is prepared to play. We have advised him to stay ready, and the first chance we get, we will include him,' he stated.

The Delhi Capitals are set to face the Gujarat Titans in their third match of the season, with DC having won both of their initial games while GT is looking to bounce back from two losses.
