Auqib Nabi Joins Indian Test Squad Ahead of Historic Match Against Afghanistan

In a significant development, Auqib Nabi has joined the Indian Test squad as a net bowler ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. Despite his stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy, where he led Jammu & Kashmir to their first title, Nabi was initially left out of the main squad. The match, set to take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, marks only the second red-ball encounter between the two nations. With several debutants in the bowling lineup, this match promises to be an exciting event for cricket fans.

Nabi's Inclusion in the Squad

Following significant discussions regarding his omission, Auqib Nabi has officially joined the Indian Test team for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled to take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Saturday, June 6. Despite his impressive performance in the Ranji Trophy, where he led Jammu & Kashmir to their first-ever title, Nabi was initially overlooked in the squad selection, which included four uncapped players. As the team begins to gather for this historic encounter, it marks only the second time these two nations will compete in a red-ball international, the last being in 2018.

Nabi's Role as a Net Bowler

No Test Debut for Nabi

It is important to note that Nabi has not been included in the main roster of 15 players; instead, he has been brought in as a net bowler to aid in the team's preparations. Alongside him, seven other players, including Gurjapneet Singh, Prince Yadav, Saransh Jain, Zeeshan Ansari, and Shivang Kumar, will also join the squad. The original lineup remains intact, and it is likely that if any injuries arise, one of these net bowlers may step in. The inclusion of net bowlers aims to provide the batters with sufficient practice while allowing key bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to rest and manage their workload after an intense IPL season, where both participated in the final for the Gujarat Titans just six days prior to the Test. India is expected to feature debutants in the bowling lineup, with three bowlers yet to represent the national team, including pacer Gurnoor Brar and left-arm spin-bowling all-rounders Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey.
