Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 13: On Thursday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recognized the remarkable achievement of boxer Lovlina Borgohain during a ceremony at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur. Lovlina earned a silver medal in the 75 kg boxing category at the recently held 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In acknowledgment of her success, the Chief Minister awarded Lovlina a cheque for Rs 30 lakh on behalf of the state government.

While honoring Lovlina, the Chief Minister praised her exceptional talent and the determination she exhibited on the global stage.

He emphasized that her accomplishment is a significant source of pride for both Assam and India, inspiring the youth of the state to strive for excellence in sports.

According to the Chief Minister, Lovlina's journey to international success is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and self-belief, making her a role model for aspiring athletes.

He expressed optimism that Lovlina would continue to excel in boxing and bring more accolades to the nation.

As a token of her participation in the Commonwealth Games, Lovlina gifted two jerseys from the Indian team to the Chief Minister.

Present at the felicitation were Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Biswajit Daimari, Additional Chief Secretary K. K. Dwivedi, and Special Secretary of the Sports Department, KJ Hilali.

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Borgohain achieved her first CWG medal, securing silver in the women's 75kg boxing event after a tightly contested final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree.
