Ashutosh Sharma Reflects on Match-Winning Performance

After his impressive performance against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Vizag, Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman Ashutosh Sharma shared insights on the valuable advice he received from former Punjab Kings (PBKS) teammate Shikhar Dhawan and DC mentor Kevin Pietersen.

Ashutosh continued his strong form from last season with PBKS, leading DC to a nail-biting one-wicket victory over LSG in a thrilling match.

During an interview with Star Sports Press Room, Ashutosh highlighted how Dhawan and Pietersen guide young players on their game approach, mindset, and managing pressure. He stated, “They emphasize the importance of staying calm and keeping a clear mind in challenging situations.”

In his last match against LSG, Ashutosh recalled a conversation with Pietersen, who encouraged him to play freely and trust himself. “He said, ‘Just play your game. Just express yourself. Believe in yourself.’ I felt his confidence in me, and I wanted to dedicate my celebration to him because he is a legend,” Ashutosh expressed.

Last season, Ashutosh made a significant impact with PBKS, forming a formidable finishing partnership with Shashank Singh. He concluded the season with 189 runs in nine matches, averaging 27.00 and boasting a strike rate exceeding 167, including a top score of 61.

In his T20 career, Ashutosh has accumulated 838 runs in 32 matches for Railways, averaging 36.43 with a strike rate over 184, featuring eight half-centuries and a personal best of 84. Notably, he holds the record for the fastest T20 half-century by an Indian, achieved in just 11 balls against Arunachal Pradesh during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Discussing his mindset, Ashutosh mentioned that his approach varies based on the match situation. “If I’m struggling to hit from the first ball, it usually gets better after 20 balls. The strategy changes depending on how many overs are left and how many wickets we have. I focus on the process, believing that if I follow it well, the results will come. I don’t overthink; I’m content with where I am and whatever happens,” he concluded.
