Historic Achievement by Arshdeep Singh

In a remarkable performance during India's second Super 8 match at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on February 26, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh made headlines by surpassing Jasprit Bumrah's record. India triumphed over Zimbabwe by 72 runs, limiting them to 184 runs for 6 wickets, largely due to Arshdeep's impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets for 24 runs in four overs.

With this achievement, Arshdeep has now become the highest wicket-taker for India in T20 World Cup history, amassing 35 wickets in just 19 innings, surpassing Bumrah's previous record of 33. His bowling average stands at 14.25, with an economy rate of 7.33. In the current tournament, he has taken eight wickets across five matches, maintaining an average of 16 and an economy of 7.11.

During the match, Arshdeep started strong, conceding only four runs in his opening over and nine in his second, although he did not take a wicket initially. He returned in the 17th over to claim his first wicket by dismissing Sikandar Raza, followed by Ryan Burl, who he trapped LBW for a duck. He concluded his spell by taking the wicket of Tony Munyonga, finishing with three wickets.

Earlier, India set a formidable target of 256 runs for 4 wickets in their innings. Abhishek Sharma showcased his talent with a stellar 55 runs off 30 balls, marking his first half-century in this prestigious tournament. Alongside him, Tilak Varma contributed an explosive 44 runs off just 16 balls, while Hardik Pandya added a quickfire 50 runs off 23 balls, forming a powerful partnership of 81 runs in just 31 deliveries.

Looking ahead, India is set to face the West Indies in their final Super 8 match on February 28 in Kolkata, where a win will secure their place in the semifinals. South Africa has already qualified for the final four, and with Zimbabwe's exit, the upcoming match against the Windies is crucial for India.
