Christchurch, Oct 23: Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm fast bowler, received a commemorative jersey to celebrate his 100th T20I match for India. This special moment took place in the dressing room after the team's impressive four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the series opener, with captain Shreyas Iyer praising Arshdeep's commitment and effort.
Arshdeep achieved this milestone during the match at Hagley Oval, where India successfully chased down a target of 226 runs with just two balls remaining. The BCCI shared the celebration on social media, featuring head coach Gautam Gambhir who initiated the ceremony by acknowledging Arshdeep's achievement.
Iyer presented the special jersey to Arshdeep, stating, "This is a special jersey for a special bowler who has reached 100 T20I matches – Arshdeep Singh. This is another achievement for you. Your dedication and hard work have led to this moment, and I hope you maintain this mindset. It’s great that your 100th game ended in a victory, and I look forward to many more successes ahead."
In response, Arshdeep expressed gratitude towards his teammates and support staff for their unwavering support during both challenging and successful times. He said, "Thank you all for your constant support, whether in tough times or good times. I appreciate everyone for always having my back. Let’s continue to create a positive atmosphere in this room, and together we will keep winning. Please continue to support us back home as well. Thank you!"
In the match, Arshdeep recorded bowling figures of 1-45 in a high-scoring game, but he also made a significant impact in the field by executing a football-style kick to run out New Zealand's Bevon Jacobs, who was threatening with a score of 31 off 16 balls.
India's successful chase was bolstered by a strong opening partnership of 93 runs during the powerplay between Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, with Samson leading the scoring with a rapid 67 off 33 balls. Iyer contributed with 42 runs off 28 balls, while Naman Dhir sealed the victory with an unbeaten 42 runs off just 15 balls.
The second T20I is scheduled to take place at Hagley Oval on Saturday, followed by matches in Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton for the remaining three games of the five-match series on October 27, October 30, and November 1.
