Anvay Dravid Impresses with Half-Century in U19 ODI Against Sri Lanka
Anvay Dravid's Stellar Performance
Anvay Dravid showcased his talent for the India U19 cricket team by scoring a remarkable half-century against Sri Lanka U19 during the second Youth ODI of their five-match series on July 6. Batting at the fifth position, Anvay made an impressive 87 runs off 67 deliveries, helping India U19 reach a total of 285 runs. With a strike rate of 129.85, he struck nine boundaries and a six. His partnership with Arun Rajput, who contributed 76 runs off 81 balls, was pivotal as they added 144 runs for the fifth wicket, allowing India to surpass the 250-run threshold.
In his previous match, Anvay had a modest outing, scoring just 14 runs off 19 balls. However, he marked his first half-century for the India U19 team in just his third appearance and aims to maintain this momentum moving forward.
Despite his recent success, Anvay Dravid was not included in the squad for the upcoming 2026 U19 World Cup. He had participated in the India B team for a tri-series leading up to the World Cup but only played one match and was ultimately not selected for the tournament. At 17 years old, he remains eligible for the 2028 U19 World Cup.
His older brother, Samit, is also pursuing a cricket career. He was part of the India U19 squad for a series against Australia in 2024 but had to forgo his debut due to an injury.
Rahul Dravid's Legacy in U19 Cricket
Rahul Dravid, Anvay's father, also made his mark in U19 cricket before advancing to the national team, debuting in 1996. Following his retirement, he transitioned into coaching and took the helm of the India U19 team in 2016. Under his guidance, the team reached the finals of the 2016 World Cup, where they finished as runners-up to West Indies. In 2018, Dravid led the team to victory against Australia in the final, securing the championship title.
