Kamboj's Impressive Performance

Auckland [New Zealand], November 4: Anshul Kamboj, named Player of the Match, attributed his remarkable bowling performance of 2/22 in the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park to his disciplined approach and effective wobble seam technique.

His focused 10-over spell was instrumental in limiting New Zealand to a total of 185 runs, paving the way for India's five-wicket triumph. Kamboj emphasized the importance of adhering to his fundamental strategies rather than being overly concerned with the pitch conditions.

“The main factor was maintaining a consistent length and line, without overthinking the pitch behavior. I concentrated on executing my basic plan by bowling in the right areas,” Kamboj stated during the post-match interview.

The Haryana fast bowler noted that the wobble seam delivery proved particularly effective, leading him to utilize it frequently throughout the match.

“The wobble seam ball was functioning exceptionally well, so I kept using it,” he remarked.

When discussing his preparations for the series, Kamboj mentioned that he focused on perfecting his lengths and lines while analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing batsmen.

“I worked on my lengths and lines, paying attention to the batsmen's strengths and weaknesses,” he added.

At 25 years old, Kamboj explained that he did not feel the need to significantly alter his bowling length for the New Zealand conditions, as he naturally generates good bounce from the pitch.

“It doesn’t matter much because I also get a good amount of bounce off the wicket. It’s primarily about the length I’m bowling, so I focus on that,” Kamboj explained.

Regarding how he evaluates conditions at various venues, he stated that understanding the surface and determining the most effective length is crucial.

“You need to observe the wicket and assess what’s happening, identifying the best delivery and the right length to bowl,” he said.

Kamboj was a standout performer for India, contributing to a disciplined bowling effort that saw New Zealand bowled out for 185 runs. Arshdeep Singh led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Gurnoor Brar took three, and Kamboj added two to his tally.

Kamboj dismissed New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner for just four runs and followed up by taking out Nathan Smith for one run, further hindering the hosts' recovery.

In response, India successfully chased a rain-adjusted target of 143 runs in 32 overs, securing victory by five wickets. Virat Kohli was the top scorer with a commanding 74 runs off 51 balls, while captain Shubman Gill contributed 56 runs off 37 balls.

The second ODI in the five-match series is scheduled to take place in Wellington on Saturday.
