Ankush Panghal Shines in Asian Games Quarterfinals

In a remarkable performance, India's Ankush Panghal has guaranteed the nation its inaugural boxing medal at the ongoing Asian Games. He achieved this by defeating Tajikistan's Nekruz Salimov with a unanimous score of 5-0 in the men's 80kg quarterfinals on Sunday.

Having recently clinched a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Ankush showcased his prowess in the ring, decisively outclassing Salimov to secure a spot in the semifinals.

This marks Ankush's debut at the Asian Games, and with his victory, he is now assured of at least a bronze medal.

The boxer from Haryana started the match with a strong offensive, landing precise punches, including a straight left and a right hook, which kept Salimov on the defensive. Despite Salimov's attempts to counterattack, his punches lacked the necessary precision and power to challenge Ankush, who dominated the first round, winning on all five judges' scorecards.

Continuing his aggressive strategy in the second round, Ankush maintained the pressure, delivering a consistent barrage of punches. Although Salimov sought to close the gap and find opportunities for counterattacks, Ankush's quick responses allowed him to maintain control throughout the exchanges.
