Ankur Bhattacharjee and Yashaswini Ghorpade Triumph at Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships

Ankur Bhattacharjee and Yashaswini Ghorpade secured the singles titles in the men’s and women’s categories at the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships held on Sunday.
In a thrilling match, Bhattacharjee triumphed over Payas Jain with a score of 4-3. Despite Payas initially leading 7-4 in the final game, Ankur's strategic timeout disrupted his momentum, allowing him to equalize at 8-8. He then took the lead at 10-9 and clinched the championship with an 11-9 finish as Payas’ return went long.
On the women’s side, Ghorpade showcased her skills with a decisive 4-1 victory against Sreeja Akula. India dominated the championships, claiming nearly all available gold medals, with the exception of the men’s doubles title.
In the men’s doubles final, Malaysia’s Shen Qi Wong and Javen Choong surprised many by defeating the Indian duo of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah in straight games.
Ghorpade started strong in her final, winning the first two games 11-6 and 11-1, putting Sreeja under pressure. Although Sreeja managed to win the third game 11-8, Ghorpade quickly regained control, winning the fourth game 11-7. The fifth game was a nail-biter, with both players exchanging points until Ghorpade finally sealed her victory at 13-11.
In the all-Indian women’s doubles final, Sreeja Akula and Syndrela Das defeated Yashaswini Ghorpade and Divyanshi Bhowmick 3-1. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles final, Manav Thakkar and Taneesha Kotecha made a remarkable comeback to win against Malaysia’s Ai Xin and Richard Rui with a score of 3-2.
