Kumble Reflects on Sooryavanshi's IPL Journey

Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble reminisced about witnessing a young Sachin Tendulkar bat while discussing the rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been making waves in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rajasthan Royals player has continued to impress following a remarkable previous season, currently leading the league with 200 runs over four matches, including two half-centuries. Despite the excitement surrounding Sooryavanshi, Kumble cautioned against placing undue pressure on the young talent.

Kumble emphasized that Sooryavanshi is still in the early stages of his career and has ample time to develop. He drew parallels to Tendulkar, who was known for scoring centuries at a young age. Kumble stated, “When Sachin Tendulkar emerged, he consistently scored hundreds as a 14 or 15-year-old. Vaibhav is certainly on the right track, but it’s important not to rush him into the national team too soon.” He added that while it’s possible for Sooryavanshi to debut soon, he still has a bright future ahead, noting that even in ten years, he will only be 25.

Kumble concluded by expressing confidence that selectors are closely monitoring Sooryavanshi's progress, highlighting that Sachin made his international debut at 16, setting a record that Vaibhav could potentially break if he earns his first cap by October 2027.
