Ange Postecoglou Takes the Helm at Al-Nassr as Head Coach
Ange Postecoglou Joins Al-Nassr
Riyadh [Saudi Arabia], June 4: Al-Nassr, the champions of the Saudi Pro League, have officially announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach on a two-year deal. This marks a fresh start for the former Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest manager following a challenging period in English football.
The club, based in Riyadh, confirmed the news on Friday, welcoming the 60-year-old as the successor to Jorge Jesus, who recently stepped down after leading Al-Nassr to the league title.
In a statement, the club expressed, “A new chapter. Mr. Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as head coach of the Al-Nassr first team. The contract spans two seasons.” They also extended their best wishes for success to him and his coaching staff.
Postecoglou arrives at Al-Nassr with the aim of restoring his managerial reputation after facing consecutive disappointments in the Premier League. His tenure at Tottenham was highlighted by a significant achievement when he led the club to UEFA Europa League victory in 2025, ending a lengthy trophy drought.
However, this success was marred by a disappointing domestic season, culminating in Spurs finishing 17th in the Premier League, which led to his dismissal shortly after the European triumph.
His subsequent role at Nottingham Forest proved to be even more difficult, as he was in charge for just over a month without securing a win in his first eight matches, which included six losses, resulting in a quick exit.
At Al-Nassr, Postecoglou takes over a title-winning squad led by Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, who played a crucial role in clinching the Saudi Pro League title on the last day of the season under Jorge Jesus.
Despite recent challenges, Postecoglou is known for his ability to build successful teams over time. He has previously won two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic and has also claimed league championships with Brisbane Roar in Australia and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, achievements that Al-Nassr hopes he can replicate in Saudi Arabia.
