Historic Achievement in Long Jump

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 27: Ancy Sojan, a long jumper from Kerala, has etched her name in history by breaking a 22-year-old national record previously held by the iconic Anju Bobby George. This remarkable feat occurred during the National Inter-State Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.


The 25-year-old athlete soared to an impressive distance of 6.88 meters, surpassing Anju's long-standing record of 6.83 meters, which was set during the 2004 Athens Olympics, according to reports from ESPN.


In addition to Ancy's achievement, the men's high jump event also witnessed a record-breaking performance. Sarvesh Kushare cleared a height of 2.31 meters, exceeding Tejaswin Shankar's previous record of 2.29 meters.


The championships are being held from June 24 to 28 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Numerous athletes, including Dev Meena (men's pole vault), Jyothi Yarraji (women's 100 m hurdles), Anushka Yadav (women's hammer throw), and Mohammed Afsal (men's 800 m), have already secured spots for the upcoming Asian Games.
