Amritsar Soormas Triumph in T20 League Final
In a thrilling finale held at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, the Amritsar Soormas showcased an impressive all-round display to secure the first-ever Sher-E-Punjab T20 League title, defeating the Ludhiana Lions by eight wickets on Sunday night.
Set with a target of 143 runs, the Soormas made quick work of the chase, finishing at 144 for 2 in just 16.4 overs, as reported in an official release.
After the Ludhiana Lions managed to score 142 runs in their 20 overs, Sahaj Dhawan anchored the Soormas' innings with an unbeaten 63 runs off 53 balls. Captain Naman Dhir contributed significantly at the start, hitting 29 runs off only 12 balls, which included four sixes. Rahul Kumar sealed the victory with a solid 42 runs off 30 balls, allowing the Soormas to reach their target with 20 balls remaining.
The bowling unit of the Amritsar Soormas effectively contained the Ludhiana Lions, with Mayank Markande leading the charge, taking 3 wickets for just 17 runs. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade for the final.
Naman Dhir's remarkable journey throughout the tournament culminated in him being named Player of the Series, having been a standout performer with the bat. He scored an astonishing 173 runs off 64 balls during the league phase and followed it up with a crucial 91 runs off 37 balls in the semi-final, propelling the Soormas to the final.
With a disciplined bowling effort, a composed chase, and stellar performances from their captain, the Amritsar Soormas made history by becoming the inaugural champions of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.
