Aman Sehrawat Leads Indian Team at Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan

Indian Wrestlers Gear Up for Asian Championships

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - From April 6 to 12, the Asian Wrestling Championships will take place, with Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat representing India as the star athlete.


According to reports from Olympics.com, the Indian squad consists of 30 wrestlers, divided equally among women's, men's freestyle, and Greco-Roman categories. Aman, who holds the title of India's youngest Olympic medallist, will compete in the men's 61 kg division.


Aman is no stranger to the 61 kg category, having previously earned two Grand Prix medals and a silver at the Zagreb Open earlier this year.


Uzbekistan's Gulomjon Abdullaev, a bronze medallist from the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 57 kg category, will also be part of the 61 kg competition.


In the men's 57 kg event, Ankush will represent India, while Sujeet Kalkal, the reigning U23 world champion in the 65 kg category, is also set to compete.


Notably, the Indian women's wrestling team will be without World Championship medallist Antim Panghal, who faced an unexpected defeat against Meenakshi Goyat during the national trials for the 53 kg category, marking her first loss in three years.


Manisha Bhanwala, who won gold at the 2025 Asian Wrestling Championships, will compete in the 57 kg category this time, shifting from the 62 kg category where she previously triumphed. Mansi Ahlawat will take part in the 62 kg event.


Leading the Greco-Roman category for India is five-time Asian Championships medallist Sunil Kumar, who will compete in the 87 kg division.


In the last Asian Championships held in Amman, Jordan, Indian wrestlers secured a total of 10 medals, including one gold, three silver, and seven bronze.
