Cape Town [South Africa], July 30: The Joburg Super Kings have officially announced the appointment of former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel as their new head coach.

This news was shared via the team's official account on X, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Albie Morkel as the Head Coach of Joburg Super Kings. A cherished member of the Super Kings family, Albie brings extensive experience and a profound understanding of our team's culture. We eagerly anticipate this exciting new chapter under his guidance. Throughout the four editions of the SA20 tournament, the Joburg Super Kings have consistently reached the playoffs but have yet to secure a championship title. Their next SA20 season is set to commence on January 18, where they will face off against the Paarl Royals.

Reflecting on his new role, Morkel expressed, “It is a tremendous honor to be named Head Coach of the Joburg Super Kings. Transitioning from wearing the Super Kings jersey as a player to now leading one of its franchises is a remarkable journey. I am excited to build upon the solid foundations we have established and help this team reach its full potential,” as stated on the Joburg Super Kings' official website.

During his international career from 2004 to 2015, Albie Morkel played in 109 matches for South Africa, amassing 1,412 runs in 82 innings, including three half-centuries, and took 77 wickets with an average of 37.59, achieving best bowling figures of 4/29.

Albie also participated in the IPL from 2008 to 2016, spending several seasons with the Chennai Super Kings, where he celebrated two IPL championships in the iconic yellow jersey.
