On August 3, former Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane took to social media to commend the Indian team for their outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026. He expressed pride in the medalists who represented the nation with excellence.
In his post on X, Rahane referred to India's overall campaign as remarkable and urged those athletes who did not secure medals to persist in their efforts. He stated, "A fantastic Commonwealth Games campaign by Team India. Congratulations to all our medal winners for making the nation proud. India secured fourth place in the overall medal standings at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, achieving a total of 39 medals, which included 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze.
Recently, Rahane announced his retirement from international cricket across all formats in an emotional video on Instagram, concluding a nearly two-decade-long career. In Test matches, he participated in 85 games and batted in 144 innings, amassing 5,077 runs, which featured 12 centuries and 26 fifties, with an average of 38.46 and a strike rate of 49.50.
In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he played 90 matches and 87 innings, scoring 2,962 runs, including 3 centuries and 24 fifties, with an average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 78.63. In T20 Internationals, he appeared in 20 matches and scored 375 runs, with no centuries and one fifty, averaging 20.83 and a strike rate of 113.29.
Rahane holds an impressive record as a Test captain, with four victories, two draws, and the highest win percentage among Indian Test captains with at least five matches. His leadership included a memorable comeback win in Melbourne and a historic victory at the Gabba, which ended Australia's long-standing unbeaten streak at that venue during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India triumphed 2-1. He also led India to a significant Test win against Australia in Dharamshala in 2017.
