Aiden Markram Takes the Helm for Manchester Super Giants

London [UK], March 13: Aiden Markram, the T20I captain of South Africa, is set to lead the Manchester Super Giants (MSG) in the 2026 edition of The Hundred, according to reports from a sports news outlet. Markram, who is currently part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Durban Super Giants in the SA20, has been acquired by MSG for £200,000.

Justin Langer, the head coach of MSG, expressed that Markram was his top choice for the role. He praised Markram as an exceptional player and a remarkable individual, highlighting his leadership skills as a significant asset to the team.

“Having Aiden Markram in three of our teams is fantastic: he’s a brilliant player, a wonderful person, and possesses real captaincy qualities. His leadership is something we truly value,” Langer stated.

In contrast, Daniel Vettori, the head coach of Sunrisers Leeds, is optimistic about England's white-ball captain Harry Brook taking on the leadership role for his team. Brook had previously indicated during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup that he might step down as captain for this year’s The Hundred.

Vettori mentioned that they are hopeful to persuade Brook to join them, saying, “I think he enjoys being part of the team, so perhaps we can convince him to stay. We’ll have to wait and see.”

The Sunrisers are set to compete against MI London in the opening match of The Hundred on July 21, just two days after England's third ODI against India. The tournament finale is scheduled for August 16, just three days prior to England's first Test against Pakistan.

Vettori acknowledged Brook's hectic schedule, noting that he would likely join The Hundred only a day or two before the first match. He also mentioned that leadership responsibilities could be shared with seasoned players like Mitchell Marsh, Dan Lawrence, and Zak Crawley.

“We recognize Harry’s commitments and how demanding his schedule is. He’ll arrive just before the first game, and we’ll discuss whether he wants to take on the captaincy. However, we have experienced players like Mitch Marsh, Dan Lawrence, and Zak Crawley who can also step up,” Vettori added.
