Aida Thimmaiah Overcomes Injury to Lead at IGU Maharashtra Golf Championship
Aida Thimmaiah's Remarkable Performance
Mumbai (Maharashtra) - On May 20, Aida Thimmaiah showcased remarkable resilience by competing with a sprained ankle, finishing the second day of the IGU Maharashtra Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship at the Willingdon Club with a commendable one-over 66.
The 12-year-old golfer now holds a two-day total of even-par 130, placing her just one stroke ahead of Yogya Bhalla, who also recorded a score of 66. In the Ladies category, Janneya A Dasanniee achieved an even-par 65, securing third place, three shots behind the leader.
Smira Bhambri's impressive one-under 64 was the highlight of the day, although she found herself seven shots off the lead in a tie for sixth.
Aida sustained her ankle injury while heading to the 13th tee and managed to complete most of her round with the help of painkillers. Starting on the back nine, her putting was somewhat inconsistent, and her ball-striking did not meet her usual standards.
Despite these challenges, Aida managed to score two birdies alongside three bogeys, with birdies on the third and ninth holes, while dropping shots on the second, fourth, and 14th holes.
In Category 'C' (ages 11-12), Vidushi Singh from Uttar Pradesh took the lead with a score of five-over 70, totaling 16-over 146 over two days. Aashna Amogha from Karnataka fell to second place with a total of 19-over 149.
