Aida Thimmaiah Shines on Day One of Championship

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] - On the first day of the IGU Maharashtra Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship held at the Willingdon Club, 12-year-old Aida Thimmaiah from Karnataka showcased her talent, overcoming a few challenges on the back nine to outshine her competitors.

Aida delivered the only sub-par score of the day, finishing with a one-under 64, which placed her a shot ahead of Yogya Bhalla. Ayesha Gupta, the overall champion from the season's opening event, finished with a one-over 66, trailing closely behind, while Mehak Lohan secured fourth place with a score of 67.

Starting strong, Aida made birdies on the third, fourth, sixth, and ninth holes. However, she faced a setback on the seventh hole, where a three-putt marred her front nine performance. The greens proved challenging due to recent coring, making them difficult to read and putt.

During the back nine, Aida, who previously ranked second in Category 'C' (11-12) last year, encountered difficulties, dropping shots on the 10th, 13th, and 16th holes. Nevertheless, she regained momentum with a birdie on the 15th, marking her first lead in this championship.

In the Category 'C' (11-12), Aashna Amogha from Karnataka and Aaliyah Kalra from Haryana both finished tied at six-over 71.
