Ahmedabad to Host World Archery Para Series 2026: A Global Sporting Event
Excitement Builds for World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], September 3: Arjun Munda, the former Union Minister and current President of the Archery Association of India, expressed his excitement about Ahmedabad being chosen as the venue for the World Archery Para Series (WAPS) 2026.
This marks the first time India will host the WAPS, which is expected to attract over 100 athletes from 20 different nations for a five-day event scheduled from September 5 to 9, 2026, at the renowned Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.
"I am thrilled that the World Archery Para Series is taking place in Gujarat. Athletes from across the globe will be coming here, and the support from the Gujarat government has been tremendous. Such events significantly enhance the confidence of the players. Already, participants from 19 countries have arrived," Munda stated.
The prestigious event is being organized by the Archery Association of India (AAI) with backing from the Government of Gujarat, the Sports Authority of Gujarat, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The official inauguration is set for September 4, 2026, at The Forum – Hotel & Convention, located near Club O7, Shela, Ahmedabad. The ceremony will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
Competitors will include athletes from India, the People's Republic of China, Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Slovakia, the United States, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cyprus, Czechia, Iraq, Russia, and Sri Lanka.
Notable Indian participants include Harvinder Singh, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Champion, Sheetal Devi, a World Para Archery Champion and Paralympic medallist, Rakesh Kumar, an Arjuna Awardee and World Para Archery medallist, and Paralympian Shyam Sunder Swami.
As Ahmedabad gears up to welcome athletes from around the world, the World Para Archery Series 2026 is set to shine a spotlight on Gujarat in the international sports arena, celebrating the inspiring stories of resilience behind each arrow.
