Preparations Intensify for the 2030 Commonwealth Games

On July 29, Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced that preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad are progressing rapidly. The state is collaborating closely with international sports organizations to ensure a memorable edition of the Games.

During his visit to the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Sanghvi emphasized Ahmedabad's commitment to showcasing its sports facilities and rich cultural heritage as it prepares to host the centenary edition of the Games in 2030.

He mentioned, "Tomorrow evening, we will inaugurate the Ahmedabad Experience Centre, where sports federations and athletes from around the globe will be welcomed. This venue will highlight Ahmedabad's culture, infrastructure, and the advancements made in Gujarat and India. We have organized interactive sessions for representatives from international federations and athletes to engage with our offerings."

Sanghvi expressed pride in hosting the Commonwealth's centenary event in Ahmedabad, stating, "This is a significant milestone for us. We are also planning to host various international tournaments in Ahmedabad, making this visit essential. Our team is dedicated to collaborating with the global sports community to provide an exceptional experience for the Games in Ahmedabad."

After attending competitions and engaging with the media in Glasgow, Sanghvi shared his thoughts on social media, stating, "The Glasgow Commonwealth Games are in full swing, and the atmosphere is truly motivating! Today, I interacted with the press and experienced the vibrant spirit of the Games. With 10 medals already secured, Team India is making us proud. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!"

His visit coincides with Gujarat's ongoing preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will mark a significant milestone in the history of the multi-sport event.

Earlier this year, in April, Sanghvi met with Commonwealth Sport officials during a high-level delegation's visit to Gujarat to assess infrastructure plans and preparations after Ahmedabad was confirmed as the host city.

The delegation, led by Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare, met with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar and inspected potential competition venues as part of the planning process. Rukare also extended an invitation to the Gujarat Chief Minister to attend the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad are anticipated to play a crucial role in enhancing India's sports infrastructure and advancing the country's aspirations to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, India has had a successful campaign in Glasgow, securing 11 medals to date—two gold, six silver, and three bronze.

The Indian medallists include Mirabai Chanu (gold in weightlifting), Sharmila Dhankar (gold in women's shot put F57), Rishikanta Singh (silver in weightlifting), Muthupandi Raja (silver in weightlifting), Gyaneshwari Yadav (silver in weightlifting), Sarvesh Kushare (silver in men's high jump), Harjinder Kaur (silver in weightlifting), Valluri Ajaya Babu (silver in weightlifting), Bindyarani Devi (bronze in weightlifting), Shilpa K. Shyla (bronze in women's shot put F57), and Jhandu Kumar (bronze in para powerlifting).
