Afghanistan's Dominant Performance in ODI Series

In a thrilling conclusion to the ODI series, Afghanistan successfully chased down Ireland's target of 299 runs, winning by six wickets in the fifth and final match held at Stormont, Belfast. This victory secured a commanding 4-0 series win for Afghanistan.

Rahmat Shah was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 143 runs, while Sediqullah Atal contributed significantly with 98 runs. Together, they formed a remarkable partnership of 201 runs for the third wicket, helping Afghanistan recover from an early setback of 22 for 2.

Initially, Ireland batted first and set a total of 298 for 7, with Curtis Campher leading the charge with a resilient 96 runs off 84 balls. Harry Tector also made a valuable contribution with a half-century, while George Dockrell and Jordan Neill provided crucial runs towards the end of the innings.

Afghanistan's bowlers applied early pressure, with Azmatullah Omarzai taking two quick wickets, dismissing Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling. AM Ghazanfar further restricted Ireland by removing Curtis Campher and Lorcan Tucker during the middle overs.

Despite the early wickets, Campher's aggressive batting turned the tide, as he struck seven fours and four sixes, forming vital partnerships with Dockrell and Neill to help Ireland reach a competitive score.

Afghanistan's innings began poorly, losing both openers to Liam McCarthy, leaving them at 22 for 2. However, Rahmat and Atal stabilized the innings, gradually building their partnership before accelerating in the middle overs.

The duo's partnership of 201 runs off 210 balls broke Afghanistan's previous record for the highest third-wicket partnership of 184, which was set against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in 2021.

Atal was dismissed for 98, but Rahmat continued to lead the charge, reaching his century off 109 balls and ultimately finishing with a personal best of 143 runs, including 13 fours and two sixes.

Azmatullah Omarzai added a quick 24 runs off 14 balls, and Rahmat sealed the match with a boundary in the 49th over, further extending Afghanistan's dominance over Ireland in the series, winning four out of five completed matches after the first ODI was rained out.
