Abhishek Sharma's Response to Yuvraj Singh's Challenge

While Abhishek Sharma grew up idolizing Yuvraj Singh, he is hesitant to accept his mentor's playful challenge of scoring a half-century in just 12 balls. Following his impressive century that led India to victory against New Zealand in the third T20I, Abhishek remarked that such achievements are far from simple.

In response to Yuvraj's light-hearted social media comment about his inability to achieve the feat, Abhishek stated that players typically do not pursue such milestones.

His remarks came after India secured a six-wicket victory, with Abhishek earning the Player of the Match title.

During the post-match presentation, he expressed, "I’m not sure what cricket he was playing back then, but it’s definitely not that straightforward."

He continued, "If any batter aims to play like that, it’s incredibly challenging. Scoring 50 off 12 balls is a rare occurrence."

Abhishek emphasized that his primary focus, along with teammate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, was to provide a strong start for the team and maintain that momentum.

"As batters, we don’t chase after such milestones. Our goal is always to secure a win for the team, especially for Vaibhav, who was present. That was our strategy, and it worked well," he noted.

He credited the coaching staff and the extensive practice with sidearm deliveries for enabling him to play his natural game, highlighting the importance of preparation in understanding conditions and adapting to bowlers.

"I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but it’s all about the preparation behind the scenes. A special thanks to our coaches for the sidearm practice; we’ve been focusing on that a lot," he mentioned.

Abhishek also pointed out that being aware of the conditions and dimensions of the field is crucial, along with considering the bowlers while executing shots.

He expressed satisfaction with the team's practice session on Monday, stating, "I wanted to make the most of it, and I believe I manifested this innings, and it came to fruition."

Additionally, he praised Sooryavanshi's strong start in the opening over, noting it played a significant role in setting the tone for their innings.

"The way Vaibhav began the first over was remarkable. Our plan was to build momentum for the team and keep pushing forward," Abhishek concluded.
