Aaron Finch Advocates for Cameron Green's Batting Position Amid Struggles
Support for Cameron Green's Batting Order
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India] - April 7: Former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch has expressed his support for all-rounder Cameron Green, who has been facing challenges at the crease, suggesting he should maintain his position higher up the batting order despite appearing "tentative."
Green, who was acquired by KKR for a hefty sum of Rs 25.20 crores, has struggled recently, managing only four runs off two balls in a match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) that ultimately ended without a result. Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that he is dealing with a lower-back injury, which has prevented him from bowling for KKR. In three innings, he has accumulated just 24 runs, with a top score of 18. However, he is reportedly increasing his bowling workload in practice sessions and is expected to return to bowling soon.
During an appearance on ESPNCricinfo's 'Timeout', Finch remarked, "One of his dismissals was a run-out, which wasn't entirely his fault. Nevertheless, he has missed opportunities twice. There seems to be a bit of panic; he doesn't appear to be the same player as before. Recall how he played at the top of the order for MI – he had a completely different mindset then."
Finch continued, "He was commanding at the crease. Currently, he seems hesitant. Instead of pushing him down the order, consider moving him up or giving him a break."
In the 2023 season, Green had a standout performance with the Mumbai Indians (MI), scoring 452 runs across 16 innings with an impressive average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28, including a century and two fifties, along with six wickets. During the 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he contributed significantly with 255 runs in 12 innings, averaging 31.87 and striking at 143.25, achieving a best score of 46 and taking 10 wickets at an average of 30.30, with best figures of 2/12.
Due to injury, he did not participate in the 2025 season. However, he had a remarkable year with Australia, scoring 258 runs in eight innings at an average of 43.00, including three fifties and a strike rate of 168.62.
This season, Green has batted at number three twice and once at number four. Unfortunately, he has not been able to replicate his previous form, managing only 117 runs in seven innings for Australia at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate exceeding 123, with a highest score of 36, and taking just two wickets at an average of 35.50. In the T20 World Cup, he scored 24 runs in three innings and claimed one wicket.
