Incident During T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka

New Delhi: A recent report has surfaced regarding a Pakistan player who faced disciplinary action for inappropriate behavior towards a female hotel staff member during their stay in Kandy, Sri Lanka, for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The incident reportedly occurred just before Pakistan's final Super 8 match against the host nation, Sri Lanka.

According to sources, the player misbehaved with a female housekeeping employee, prompting her to call for assistance. Hotel staff intervened and subsequently informed Pakistan's team manager, Navaid Cheema, about the situation.

The management of the Golden Crown Hotel insisted on a serious response to the incident. However, Cheema issued an apology on behalf of the player and imposed a fine for the misconduct, as reported.

Despite winning the match by a narrow margin of five runs, Pakistan's journey in the tournament ended as they failed to qualify for the semifinals due to net run-rate, leading to their return home in stages over the weekend.

The player involved is expected to face further consequences from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary committee.

This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous reports of misconduct involving Pakistani players and staff during tours. Notably, young batter Haider Ali was arrested last year in England on serious charges, although he was later released due to insufficient evidence. Additionally, team masseur Malang Ali faced similar allegations during a tour in Malaysia a few years back.
