Exciting Start to Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Glasgow is buzzing with anticipation as the Commonwealth Games' track and field events commence today. The spotlight is on M. Sreeshankar, Kerala's long jump sensation, as he takes to the field on the opening day.

Athletics is undeniably the highlight of the Games, and the excitement is palpable. Team India aims to secure its first medals right from the start. Tonight at 11:40 PM IST, the high jump trio—Sarvesh Kushare, Adarsh Ram Jyoti, and Tejaswin Shankar—will showcase their talents.

Sarvesh Kushare is a key athlete to watch, having recently made headlines in Monaco by becoming the first Indian to achieve a podium finish in high jump at the Diamond League. He also reached the finals at last year's World Athletics Championships and is the first Indian to clear the 2.3-meter height.

In today's long jump qualification, M. Sreeshankar is expected to shine, having previously won a silver medal at the last Commonwealth Games. He will compete in Group A, while Lokesh Sathyanathan will be in Group B.

Gurindervir Singh, recognized as India's fastest man, will also be on the track today, participating in the fourth heat of the 100-meter first round. He recently set a national record at the Federation Cup in Ranchi, finishing the race in under 10.01 seconds.

In the swimming pool, another Kerala athlete, Sajan Prakash, will compete in the heats for his favorite event, the 200-meter butterfly, scheduled for 3 PM. A strong performance could lead him to the finals early tomorrow.

In boxing, Gyaneshwari Yadav is set to compete for gold in the women's 53 kg final at 5:30 PM. Additionally, Sachin, Ankush, Sakshi, and Sumit will be in action for their quarter-final matches.

Weightlifting will see Valluri Ajay Babu and Bindyarani Devi in their final events. Furthermore, Indian athletes will also participate in Lawn Bowls, Para Swimming, Para Athletics, and Wheelchair Basketball today.
