CityPickle's New York Expansion

CityPickle, a rapidly emerging name in the pickleball arena, is significantly broadening its reach with the inauguration of a substantial new facility in New York, highlighting the sport's growing appeal in urban areas. Established in 2021 by friends Mary Cannon and Erica Desai, the company has transformed from a startup concept into a leading entity in racket sports. Its latest achievement is the launch of what is touted as the largest pickleball club in New York, strategically located in Times Square, a major global tourist and entertainment destination.

The new flagship venue covers an impressive 37,000 square feet and is positioned on the eighth floor of the historic Paramount Building at 1501 Broadway. This site is particularly noteworthy as it is the first year-round location for CityPickle in Manhattan and holds historical importance, being the former home of the iconic Paramount Theatre, which showcased legendary artists like Frank Sinatra before its closure in 1966. Besides the courts, the Times Square facility also accommodates CityPickle’s corporate headquarters, along with a full-service bar and restaurant.

This expansion follows the company’s earlier initiative in 2023, when it opened New York’s inaugural indoor pickleball club in Long Island City, situated across the East River. CityPickle is on a growth path, with plans for a 60,000-square-foot facility near the Brooklyn Bridge in the Dumbo area, slated to open this spring. In addition to these permanent locations, the company operates seasonal venues, including a site at Related Cos.’ Hudson Yards, where it first launched a pop-up concept in 2022.

To further solidify its footprint in New York, CityPickle has recently entered into a 20-year agreement to manage Wollman Rink during the non-ice skating season, enhancing its ongoing collaboration with Related, which oversees the Central Park attraction.

Beyond New York, CityPickle is extending its operations, currently running a seasonal location at Philadelphia’s Dilworth Park, close to City Hall. The company is also gearing up to expand into Florida with plans to establish Boca Paddle by CityPickle, a 100,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor pickleball and padel complex, expected to launch later this year. Looking to the future, Cannon has mentioned potential expansions into cities like Boston and San Francisco in the U.S., as well as international markets such as Toronto and London, as CityPickle continues to enhance its presence in the global pickleball scene.
