Chris Woakes Injured in Fifth Test Against India

London: Chris Woakes, the seasoned England seamer, has been sidelined for the remainder of the fifth Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against India due to a shoulder injury sustained on the first day, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday.

The ECB stated, “Chris Woakes will be under observation for the rest of the Fifth Test at The Kia Oval after suffering a left shoulder injury during the match against India.”

The statement further noted, “Currently, the injury has prevented him from participating further in the Test. A detailed evaluation will take place after the series concludes.”

During the 57th over of India's first innings, Woakes exited the field after landing awkwardly on his left shoulder while attempting to save a boundary hit by Karun Nair. He was seen clutching his shoulder and received immediate medical assistance before using his sweater as a makeshift sling as he left for the dressing room.

On Day 1, Woakes bowled 14 overs, achieving figures of 1 for 46. His injury adds to England's growing list of concerns, as the team is already missing several key players for this crucial final Test, including captain Ben Stokes, who is out due to a right shoulder injury.

Woakes' absence will leave England's bowling attack lacking experience, as the remaining bowlers have a combined total of just 18 Test caps.

At 35 years old, Woakes has been a vital player for England throughout the series, being one of only two seamers, alongside India's Mohammed Siraj, to participate in all five matches. He has bowled a total of 181 overs and taken 11 wickets at an average of 52.18.
