Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed admiration for Abhishek Sharma following his remarkable century against the Delhi Capitals (DC). Pujara referred to the young opener as a "special talent" after his match-winning display for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the current IPL season.
During a segment on JioHotstar's 'Champions Waali Commentary', Pujara praised Abhishek for achieving his second IPL century and his first of the season, emphasizing how effortlessly the left-handed batsman accumulates runs. "Abhishek Sharma played a fantastic innings to score his second IPL hundred and his first this season. He makes scoring centuries appear effortless," Pujara remarked.
Pujara Highlights Sharma's Crucial Role
Pujara further emphasized the significance of Abhishek's contributions to SRH, noting that his performances frequently lead to victories for the team due to his impactful role at the top of the batting order. "His runs are vital for SRH as they often result in wins. He is indeed a special talent," he added.
He also pointed out Abhishek's innate skill and consistency, suggesting that his class shines through when he faces quality opposition. "When he plays like this, his talent is evident to all. Very few players possess the skill and class that Abhishek Sharma has," Pujara stated.
Sharma's Record-Breaking Performance
Sharma set multiple records with his impressive innings, achieving his second-highest score in the IPL. On Tuesday, he was in phenomenal form, reaching his second IPL century in just 47 balls, hitting 9 fours and 10 sixes in a stunning exhibition of power hitting.
The SRH opener concluded his innings unbeaten at 135 runs off 68 balls, helping Hyderabad post a formidable total of 242/2 in their 20 overs. This innings marked Sharma's second IPL century.
With this performance, Abhishek now has nine T20 centuries, tying with Virat Kohli among Indian batsmen. In the all-time rankings, Chris Gayle leads with 22 centuries, followed by Babar Azam with 12 and David Warner with 10. Abhishek joins a select group that includes players like Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw, and Sahibzada Farhan.

In a match where they defended a massive total of 243, Eshan Malinga delivered an outstanding performance, taking four wickets and leading Sunrisers Hyderabad to a convincing 47-run victory over the Delhi Capitals.
