Chennai Super Kings Sign Akash Madhwal as Replacement for Injured Ayush Mhatre
CSK Welcomes New Bowler
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially brought Akash Madhwal on board to replace Ayush Mhatre, who is sidelined for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a hamstring injury. The IPL announced that Madhwal, a right-arm fast bowler, has previously played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2023 and 2024, as well as the Rajasthan Royals in 2025. Over his IPL career, Madhwal has participated in 17 matches, taking 23 wickets, including an impressive five-wicket haul of 5/5 during his debut season for MI against the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator.
Mhatre, who captained India to victory in the U19 World Cup, had a strong start to the season with CSK, scoring two fifties in six games before injuring his left hamstring while batting in Match 27 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Madhwal has joined the five-time champions CSK for a fee of ₹30 lakh.
MI vs CSK: Anticipated Showdown
The upcoming match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium promises to be a thrilling encounter, featuring two of the most successful teams in IPL history, each with a roster full of star players. However, recent performances suggest that the intensity of this rivalry may be diminishing.
As CSK prepares to face their archrivals MI, the latter enters the match with renewed confidence following a remarkable bowling display and a century from Tilak Varma against the Gujarat Titans, marking their second win of the season. In contrast, CSK is eager to bounce back after suffering a narrow 10-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was their fourth loss this season.
