Chennai Super Kings Face Key Player Absences Ahead of IPL 2026 Opener
Significant Setbacks for CSK Before IPL Kickoff
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be without star batter Dewald Brevis for their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 30 in Guwahati, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
This news was confirmed by CSK's head coach Stephen Fleming just before the match. Brevis' injury adds to the team's challenges, as they are already missing Nathan Ellis, who is sidelined for the tournament due to injury. Additionally, veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is expected to be unavailable for the first two weeks due to a calf strain.
The five-time champions are also anticipating the arrival of Australian pacer Spencer Johnson, who has stepped in for the injured Ellis. Johnson is expected to join the CSK squad between April 21 and 23.
Exciting Trades Highlight CSK-RR Matchup
CSK will kick off their season against the 2008 champions, Rajasthan Royals, on March 30 in Guwahati. Notably, former RR player Sanju Samson has joined CSK, while veteran Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja returns to RR after a trade prior to the auction. This trade also saw English all-rounder Sam Curran move from CSK to RR, but he will miss the tournament due to injury.
