Exciting Developments in Chennai's Pickleball Scene

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], November 3: The Chennai Super Champs, representing the city in the World Pickleball League (WPBL), has officially launched six cutting-edge indoor courts in collaboration with Sathyabama University.


These courts will serve as the venue for the inaugural Chennai Open, scheduled from November 13 to 16, 2025. This event is set to be a highlight in Chennai's sporting calendar, promising an exhilarating festival for sports enthusiasts.


Organized by the Chennai Super Champs alongside WPBL, this first edition aims to foster a community spirit while promoting the rapidly growing sport of pickleball. With a remarkable prize pool of Rs 25 Lacs, it offers a platform for young talents to shine and potentially advance in the WPBL.


Amidst Chennai's vibrant sports culture, the Chennai Open will transform the city into a lively hub, inviting players, fans, and families to engage with pickleball in an unprecedented way. Over four thrilling days, attendees can expect dynamic matches, engaging experiences, and a festive atmosphere that celebrates both elite competition and community involvement.


Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who co-owns the Chennai Super Champs, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Chennai has a deep-rooted passion for sports, and the Chennai Open embodies that spirit. This tournament is inclusive, aiming to attract everyone, especially youth eager to explore pickleball. We want to create a sporting festival that resonates with the city and its residents.”


Himank Duvvuru, another co-owner, shared his aspirations for the tournament's impact, saying, “Our vision is to integrate pickleball into the daily lives of Chennai residents through the Chennai Open. We are also planning camps for various groups, including school children and working professionals, to encourage more people to enjoy this fantastic sport.”


The Chennai Open 2025 is designed to accommodate participants of all ages and skill levels, from enthusiastic beginners to experienced players. Its inclusive format and community-focused approach aim to establish it as one of India's premier pickleball events.

– Skill Levels: Intermediate (DUPR 3.0+), Advanced (DUPR 4.0+), Pro (DUPR 5.0+)


– Age Categories: Under 14, Under 18, Open, 35+, and 50+


– Competition Types: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles

– Players may register for up to two Skill Levels and two Age Categories


– Intermediate players can compete in Advanced, while Advanced players may enter Pro


– DUPR ratings are recommended but not mandatory
